Summary

In 1969, it was announced that McDonnell Douglas had been selected as the prime airframe contractor of a new fighter for the USAF, the F-15. The F-15 is the dominant air superiority fighter in the world and its creation revolutionized the face of fighter design. The first F-15A flight was made in July of 1972. As the Eagle entered service with front-line USAF units, seven Air National Guard units started to receive F-15A/B models, the first being the 199th Fighter Squadron out of Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, in the summer of 1987. Today, an F-15 has never been shot down by another aircraft and has a record of 104-0.

Overview

F15-A number 76-0063 is a priceless addition to our collection of historic aircraft. It was delivered to the USAF in 1977 and assigned to the 49th Tactical Fighter Wing (TFW) at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. It flew with the 8th and 9th Fighter Squadrons of the 49th TFW at Holloman where it served as the ‘Wing Flagship’ and had painted on its fuselage “City of Alamogordo”. When the 49th TFW transitioned to the F-117, 76-0063 was transferred to the Hawaii Air National Guard in June 1992. This aircraft was transferred from Hickam AFB to PHAM in 2008 as a loan.
