Aviation pathways

Overview
The aviation industry is heading into a critical decade. With a large portion of the current workforce nearing retirement, there’s a growing global demand for skilled pilots, aircraft mechanics, and aviation engineers. Yet high training costs and long certification timelines often stand in the way for many aspiring young people. While research shows that early exposure to STEM education increases interest in related careers, Hawaii lacks accessible programs that connect students to real opportunities in aviation. Because of this, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum has launched Aviation Pathways—a dynamic, hands-on program designed to build practical skills and offer mentorship for students interested in becoming pilots or certified A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) mechanics. Through Aviation Pathways, students gain real experience, explore career options, and take meaningful steps toward entering the aviation field—all right here in Hawaii
