The Shealy Restoration Shop
Overview
Explore a genuine aircraft restoration shop that rebuilds and maintains authentic aircraft from World War II and the many years since. Fittingly, Hangar 79, where the Restoration Shop is housed, was a maintenance and engine repair facility during the war. It was filled with fighters, bombers and patrol aircraft that were based in Pearl Harbor or en route to the front lines. In 2007, Mike and Carol Shealy approached the Museum, wanting to fund a display to highlight the huge contribution aircraft maintenance personnel made to military aviation. The result: a restoration shop in Hangar 79 in its original World War II maintenance configuration. Visitors can see The Shealy Restoration Shop on their tour of the Museum then go behind the scenes on our guided Legends of Pearl Harbor Tour for a can’t-miss experience, including a peek at all the aircraft currently being restored and entrance to our Douglas C-47 Skytrain.
